The exhibit was on the relationship between adult and children's clothing from the 18th C through the early 20th C. It is running until December 1, 2013 (website). There are some interesting pieces, including underpinnings, shoes, hats, gloves, women's clothing, and men's suits.
On to the photos. I will post more pictures of individual pieces later. I took these with my parents' Nikon D5100, so even with a high ISO things came out okay, after some balancing in Adobe Bridge. But there was an issue with photography, and it is related to the one major flaw in the exhibit: the lighting. Like many costume galleries, the exhibit is lit mostly with low lights. The clothing is also behind glass. This is understandable as it helps preserve the artifacts. However, there was also a table in the middle of the room that had a bunch of desk lamps on it, where kids could color their own fashion drawings. That concept was cool, but the result was there was a lot of glare on the glass cases from those desk lamps. Putting a small but relatively bright light source in the middle of the exhibit was probably not the best idea. They should perhaps have put the coloring table behind a low screen, to shield the light from the rest of the room.

Here is an oddity--a girl's dress that is just a scaled down adult dress, complete with bust pads to fill out the bodice (the pads are the white circles on the floor of the case). Most early children's clothing was similar to adult versions, but not identical. (Sorry for my expression in this photo, I was weirded out by this dress!)
In the main building, there was also a small exhibit on 19th C miser's purses. Lots of lovely beadwork!
