Fashion Plate Fridays: Walking and Hunting Costume

I've always been fascinated by women's sporting costume. Riding habits from all eras, plus the tennis, bycling, and shooting outfits you see in the 19th century. They're always such an interesting combination of current women's and men's fashion. The ensembles are supposed to be practical, but also fashionable examples of women's dress. This makes for some striking juxtapositions.

In this fashion plate from La Mode Illustree, the hunting costume on the right draws from the style of men's suits. I love the little derby hat! But it also has the natural form drapery in the skirt and the long, tight bodice that would be seen on any woman's outfit, like the walking ensemble on the left.
